U19, Senior B Team Hold Nerve to Gain Semi-Final Spot.

Despite storm Diana on Wednesday last, two basketball teams headed to play Santa Sabina, beside the coast in Sutton.  There was no storm inside during the U16, Premier division match where they had an easy victory by the final whistle.  The team finished the 1st quarter 4 – 7 down, with only Gretta McEvoy and Ava Prendergast scoring.  They settled down in the next quarter and started to run their offences.  Prendergast continued where she left off and bagged herself a further 7 points in this quarter, and the side finished 21 – 12.  Nikola Busa had her best game of the season as she rebounded at both ends and picked up 12 points for herself.  Santa Sabina were held scoreless in the final quarter and the win went to the visitors, 45 – 20.  Ava Prendergast finishing as top scorer on 14 points.

The U19, Senior B team were next to take to the court.  Having watched the U16 squad win they were under the added pressure, of having to win this one, to be sure of semi-final qualification.  They were quickest out of the blocks, with Shona Bradley particularly sharp on the day, and led 13 – 5 at the break.  They added a further 12 points in the 2nd quarter, with Catherine Grey playing out of her skin, to ensure her side qualified.  They led 25 – 12 going into the 3rd quarter.  Sabina were doing their best to get back into this game and a poor 3rd quarter by Our Lady’s, let them right back in and the difference was clawed back to just 5 points.  The sides exchanged scores in the final quarter, and with Rachael Beirth contributing 6 points, they won 34 – 26.  This win leaves them with just one loss in their league campaign and they will now qualify in 2nd place for the semi-final draw.
