Here at Our Lady’s College there is a very active and successful basketball program. Generally, the school enters 8 to 10 teams each year into the Secondary Schools Association league.
Trials are run each April and May for any students who wish to play on a team the following September. First year trials take place throughout the month of September, during P.E. classes and there is also an evening session, such is the demand for a team place.
Each team accommodates 15 players. We normally enter two teams into each section with one playing in division 1 and one playing in division 2. Recent years have seen three teams being entered in the second year league and first year league.
Teams and Training Days
The teams and training days are as follows. These change each year.
Seniors (U/19): Monday lunchtime and Tuesday 4 – 5.30pm;
Cadettes (U/16): Thursday lunchtime and Monday 4 – 5.30pm;
Juniors (2nd years): Tuesday lunchtime and Friday 4 – 5.30pm:
Minors (1st years): Wednesday & Friday lunchtime and Thursday 4 – 5.30pm.
A lunch-time league is run each year after the Easter break when all leagues are finished. This is for all first and second year students (not just those on teams). The teams are coached by 3rd year and TY Students and the highlight is the final, with the two finalists and their coaches being presented with their trophies on Prize Giving Day.
