Explanation of Steps to Add a Post to Latest News
- On the school website, in the menus choose Staff > Update Website.
- Enter your username (usually the bit of your staff email address before the @ symbol e.g. jloughran) and password (contact the webeditor if you do not have one or have forgotton it).
- Choose Posts > Add New from the left sidebar.
- Enter the title under Add New Post. Keep it short.
- Enter the text in the large box under “Paragraph”. Again short is good.
- To add an image choose Add Media above Paragraph – see instructions below.
- In the next box down under Post Options turn the Page Title on. Then beside Sidebar Options choose Sidebar Right. Then Select Right Sidebar appears. In the dropdown choose Left-Sidebar (I know it is contradictory). This ensures that the sidebar with the Calendar, E-mail, Vsware buttons etc. appear to the right of the article you have written. It is desirable but not critical.
- On the right of the page, under Categories click News – this makes the article Title appear under Latest News on the homepage. Clicking on the news item brings you to the post (the article you wrote).
- Under Publish click the blue Publish or Update button (if you published already and have just edited it).
- To see how it looks on the web page Choose the house icon beside Our Ladys College, top left of Add New Post page. To keep the editor open, in Chrome or Edge first you should right click on the browser tab at the top which says Edit Page, then choose Duplicate. You may need to refresh your browser to see changes you made – curly arrow icon top left, or the F5 key.
Add an image with the article which will appear in the banner slideshow
- On the right of the page, near the bottom under Featured Image, choose Set Featured Image if you have an image that you want to appear in the banner.
- In the Featured Image window which appears either choose an image from the Media Library or to use one you have on your device choose Upload Files. Find the image on your device and click Open. This returns you to the previous window where you choose Set Featured Image (bottom right).
- This brings you back to the Add New Post page where the image which will appear in the banner show up under Featured Image.
- On the right of the page, under Categories click Banner – this makes the image appears in the Banner.
- For best results you may need to crop the image for the banner so it is three times as wide as it is high e.g. width = 900 px, height = 300 px. Otherwise WordPress may do this for you and cut off peoples’ heads! You can do this in any image editor e.g. Paint. Ask webeditor for help.
Add an image with the article to appear on the page
- Click within the text of the article where you want to add an image e.g. on a new blank line.
- Choose Add Media, top left.
- In the Add Media window which appears either choose an image from the Media Library or to use one you have on your device choose Upload Files. Find the image on your device and click Open. This returns you to the previous window where you choose Insert Into Page (bottom right).
- Resize as you wish. Right click on the image to position it left or right aligned etc., to add a caption.
- Be aware that if you add the same image as a Featured Image for the banner as in the section above and add it to the page as here, it will appear twice. Experiment.
- The procedure to add a video to the post is similar to the above. Google it.
How to get images onto your PC, Mac or device from a portable device.
There are a number of different ways to get an image onto your PC. One should work for you. If you use another method feel free to add it to this page yourself! Otherwise please e-mail instructions to the webeditor who will add it.
- Set your phone or tablet up to store images in a folder which syncs with some cloud storage such as Dropbox (fastest) or OneDrive. In Dropbox the folder is called Camera Uploads and syncs in a minute if you are online / on WiFi.
- On your PC during step 3 above look for the file under Dropbox / Camera Uploads or the equivalent in OneDrive.
- On an iThingy-ma-jig (iPhone/iPod etc.) save your pictures to iCloud or similar.
- On your Mac computer during step 3 above look for the file under iCloud / Camera Uploads or the equivalent.
- Download photos from your phone/portable device directly to a PC/Mac using a USB or other cable.
How to add a New Page to the Website linked to a Menu Item

- Scroll down and Save Menu or Delete Menu.
- View your new page on the website and test that the menu item links correctly to the new page. Refresh the browser page if necessary.
