Students are prepared for the Junior Certificate course in oral, aural, reading and writing skills. They are encouraged to have pen friends from an early age which helps with their language acquisition and with their appreciation and knowledge of life in German speaking countries. Students are encouraged to take part in the school exchange programme with our partner school “Friedrich Albert Lange Schule” in Solingen near Dusseldorf.
Choosing French or German for Junior Certificate is essential if one is to study that language for the Leaving Certificate. A modern language is essential for entry to many third level colleges.
What are the modern languages Junior Certificate exams like?
• you will listen to and answer questions on conversations, news items, etc. in the language
• you will read and answer questions on texts like advertisements, articles, recipes and celebrity profiles in the language
• you will write texts like notes, cards and postcards in the language. You can take each exam at Higher or at Ordinary level
