The Parents Council undertook a number of new fundraising initiatives in 2012-2013. A Christmas Floral Demonstration and Arrangement Night was held on 27th Nov 2012. The demonstration on the night was given by Jean Strong. The entry fee of €15 included mulled wine, mince pies and tea/coffee plus a raffle for the floral arrangements made on the night. The night was a great success and we hope to repeat similar events in the future. The event was attended by almost 100 people and a total of €800 was raised.
We also held a raffle at the interval on each night during the run of the Transition Year play ‘The Curious Tutelage of Little Miss Red’ in December 2012. Sponsors of the raffle prizes included Integra Gym, Coulter & Black Cake Design, Fox`s Jewellers and Sapphire Hair Salon. We would like to take this opportunity to thank all of our sponsors for their generosity. We are currently investigating the feasibility of establishing a pool of spot prizes for future draws. We would welcome any suggestions or comments on this and of course we would be grateful for any contributions.
The Carol Service held in the Augustinian Church on 20th December whilst the brainchild of the Parents` Council, was a resounding success thanks to the hard work and effort of the teachers and students and again it is anticipated that this event will be repeated in future years having raised almost €2000 for the school.
Thank you to everyone who gave their support by buying Pantomime tickets through the school recently, and helped us to bolster our funds. Our thanks also to the Pantomime Society for giving us the opportunity to raise funds. We would also like to congratulate them on a great production of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.
The Parents Council undertake a number of fundraising initiatives during the school year.
We hold our Flag Day in September each year, our 6 week draw in the run up to Easter and our Church Gate Collection in March. All of these fundraisers are very important for the assistance it allows us to provide to the improvements to the school for the benefit of our daughters. The 6 week draw is our main fundraiser and so it is particularly important that every student endeavours to contribute to this. Full cards are priced at €60 or €10 per week for the 6 weeks of the draw. Each line is priced at €2 per week. There are prizes galore not only for the winners, but the sellers of full cards, full lines, best class, best year etc and the draw culminates in an Easter Raffle which is held in the gym on the Friday of the Easter Holidays at which we raffle easter eggs, hampers etc. The girls seem to love this raffle, it generates great excitement! Please see below where we will publish the weekly results of the 6 week draw. We are very grateful to all those who contribute to these fundraisers.
In addition to the main fundraisers, we like to do something of a more social nature each year. In the past we have held a Christmas Floral Demonstration and a Christmas Cookery Demonstration and for Christmas 2014 we hosted the Christmas Concert in the Augustinian with special guest Donal Lunny. The primary purpose of these events is to bring the wider school community together. Parents have an opportunity to get together socially and to meet other parents and teachers whilst having a good night out. Each event held so far has been very successful, proving that given the opportunity, parents welcome the chance to get together in an informal setting.
This year we will be holding a Christmas Floral Demonstration on Nov. 26th at 7:30 in the school assembly hall, tickets available from any member of the Parents Council or from the School Office.
Sponsorship of Prizes
In 2012 the Parents Council wrote to parents asking them for the first time to consider donating prizes that could be used for fundraising events. We received a very good response from parents, some of them local business people, to our request. These prizes have been used for raffles on several occasions and have helped us raise hundreds of Euros. Thank you all for your generosity. Please note that we continue to accept prizes in this way.
